Our Town

Our Town – Bethany Beach, Delaware

Bethany Beach is located about 2 hours east of Washington and Baltimore and 2 ½ hours south of Philadelphia on the Delaware Atlantic coast. Located a short drive between Ocean City, MD and Rehoboth, DE, Bethany is considered one of the “quiet resorts”, with more of an emphasis on family entertainment and less of a “party” atmosphere than our larger neighbors. During the summer months, visitors flock to our town to enjoy swimming, fishing, water sports, or just to relax on our warm, sandy beaches with family and friends. Bethany has a large selection of dining and shops, and between Memorial Day and Labor Day the town hosts regular musical entertainment on our boardwalk bandstand. Also on the beach all summer, the town sponsors a movie night every Monday. and a bonfire every Thursday.

Our surrounding area includes the Indian River, Rehoboth, and Assawoman bays; great places to fish, crab, boat, kayak, and sail. There are several local parks on the bays and beaches to explore, as well as excellent golf courses, tennis centers, and back roads to cycle.  The area is small enough to take a day trip to Assateague to see the wild ponies, hit the rides in Ocean City or Rehoboth, enjoy the night life in Dewey Beach or Ocean City, go deep sea fishing out of the Indian River or OC inlets, and never be more than 25 miles from Bethany Beach. The area offers something for everyone.

Spring and fall are great times to visit our area as well. It is less crowded and you can often find lower-priced accommodations than during peak season, yet just about everything is open and often the ocean is warm enough to swim in into October. Bethany and the surrounding towns host several festivals and events in the off-season, including the Bethany Arts Festivals on the boardwalk and several organized runs and triathlons. On New Year’s Day you can participate in the Hair of the Dog run and win one of the plush dog prizes provided by Tidepool Toys & Games, and then jump in the ocean for the Leo Brady Eskimo Swim if you dare. It gets quiet in the winter months, but it is still a great place for a romantic getaway or to just enjoy the natural beauty of the area, and our toy store is open year-round!
